The Municipal Council of Pula adopted the Conservation and Enhancement Program of Land Reclamation Areas – Santa Margherita di Pula (CA)

By Resolution n. 30 of 27/08/2024, the Conservation and Development Programme for the Remediation Area of Santa Margherita di Pula and its Environmental Report for the Verification of Asservibility to VAS were adopted.

The programme covers an area of about 1024 hectares, known as the Santa Margherita reclamation complex, which is one of many examples of structural works on the territory carried out to improve the conditions of cultivation of the lands, started in the wake of the Agrarian Reform (by ETFAS in the 50s).

In March 2016 the Region of Sardinia approved the Regional Resolution 14/46 "Directives for the implementation of articles 57, 58 and 59 of the NTA of the Regional Landscape Plan - First homogeneous area in the areas of reclamation". This started the activity of supporting the Municipalities in which the historical-cultural systems of the reclamations exist. The Landscape Plan identifies "remediation areas" as identity assets and "reclamation villages" as landscape assets.

The municipality of Pula has a reclamation area equal to about 6.5% of the municipal area. "Remediation areas" are areas with a strong identity linked to:

- environmental improvement measures for agricultural purposes, 

- production processes and resulting landscapes, 

- population interventions,

- the economic activation of high social and historical value.

The combination of these elements make these areas special places of historical and landscape importance for Sardinia.

The steps following the adoption measure include the publication of the program in legal forms, activation of the co-Planning table and transmission of the Program to the "Competent Authority" for the  verification of subjectivity to Strategic environmental evaluation (VAS in Italian).
